River Woods Park Court Replacement

The River Woods Park Basketball Court Replacement project involved the reconstruction of an existing outdoor basketball facility within River Woods Park in Auburn Hills. Originally constructed in 2002, the existing 8,800-square-foot circular basketball court had reached the end of its service life, exhibiting surface deterioration, base failures, and settlement of the basketball hoop foundations.

The project included the complete demolition and removal of the existing asphalt court, concrete foundations, basketball equipment, and associated site elements. Following demolition, the underlying aggregate base was evaluated to determine the extent of required reconstruction. Unsuitable materials were removed and replaced with compacted aggregate to provide a stable foundation for the new court.

New reinforced concrete foundations were installed for four basketball hoop systems to address previous settlement concerns. The court was reconstructed with a new asphalt playing surface graded at 1% to improve drainage and finished with a like-for-like court layout featuring two-color game striping. Additional improvements included new player benches and minor landscape restoration.

The project restored an important recreational facility within the park and provides Auburn Hills residents with a safe and functional space for recreation. The renewed court is designed to support long-term use while maintaining the original circular layout of the existing facility.
